After our first family trip to Ubud, we had such a great time, that we convinced my sister-in-law’s family to come along on a new trip to Bali during July.
After searching the internet for locations and villas, we finally decided on renting this beautiful villa on the coast of Candidasa, Bali. The villa’s name is Rumah Imbang, “Rumah” meaning house, and “Imbang” meaning balance, or equilibrium.
The day we arrived we were greeted by a beautiful warm breeze flowing over the bay and through the amazing sea-side villa. The owner, Gary, was away and had left the management to his staff, who were typically gracious and hospitable in the Balinese manner.
We were travelling with small children so we had requested that a barrier of some kind be erected around the swimming pool (pool fences not being common in Bali), and the staff had made an effective and suitable temporary fence around the pool. This was a big relief for anxious parents, and allowed us to all relax a bit more. The gate to the beach and ocean was also very secure and the fences around the property were all secure against kids wandering beyond the property.

The bedrooms were contained in three separate bungalows. The main, or master, bedroom was adjoined to the main house, but separated by a small study, and with its own private entrance. The bathroom was an amazing au naturel affair with an open-sky vista and enough space to host a party. The second bungalow housed two bedrooms with two single beds in each, separated by a lovely bathroom, again with plenty of fresh air. This bungalow was perfect for our four (yes 4!) young boys, who were thrilled to have their own ‘house’ to themselves. Set further back was the third bungalow, which had adjacent rooms each with a double bed and individual bathrooms. The bathrooms were again, au naturel, with a lovely rainfall shower, mirror and vanity.

The villa is suitable for self-catering, with its own kitchen and cookware. The staff cooked for us a couple of nights and did a lovely job, and on several nights we ordered from the local restaurants and warungs who delivered to our door with a smile.

From the villa we headed out most days on adventures, either hiring a car and taking drives into the countryside and visiting nearby towns, or walking to nearby villages or beaches.
