The delightfully named Bugbug village is a few kilometres north of Candidasa.
The village is not a tourist village, it’s just a real Balinese village with people leading their normal lives. Since in Bali, normal life revolves around the villages temples and ceremonies, it’s not hard to stumble into something interesting happening in the village.
While we were there, the village was preparing for a festival that would culminate in a prosession down the seaside. We couldn’t stay for the procession, but did pick up some delicisous local food and watched the local kids playing an interesting gambling game (no problems with kids gambling here!).

The local kids were engrossed in this gambling game, where kids placed money bets on which character would turn up in the rolled dice. The action was fast and furious with money changing hands fast. We didn’t have our kids with us, but I’m sure they would have been right into it!

The local food was delicious, and certainly not the usual tourist fare.
